The Veterinary Surgeons

We have a dedicated team of vets who work at the practice working full and part time.  Our practice provides 24/7 veterinary care to all animals, whether a pet, equine or farm animal. Our own vets cover our 'out of office hours' care and take a share in the on-call rota. As a client you will always be able to speak to one of our vets, at any time of day or night, by calling the practice phone number.

Sarah Simpson BVM&S MRCVS

Sarah qualified from Edinburgh in 1987 and moved back to her hometown of Hawick in 1988, after working in mixed practice in Cumbria. Sarah became a partner in the practice in 1991 and since then she has seen many changes in our veterinary business in Hawick. In 2011 Sarah was fundamental in the relocation of the practice from Drumlanrig Square to the new, purpose built clinic in Earl Street, next to Morrisons.

Sarah enjoys working with all animals but has a special interest in equine work, including tendon ultrasonography and respiratory medicine.

Sarah has two horses called Mayze and Major, plus a black Labrador called Kestrel.

My animal update:

  • Mayze is currently deciding whether or not she wants to be a race horse!
  • I recently had to put Major down who, at the age of 27, has had a wonderful life, given so many so much joy and will be missed very much. This was a sincerely humbling experience, he was a star to the end.

Andrew graduated in 1997 with a degree in genetics, then qualified as a vet in 1999 from Glasgow University. In 2004, Andrew joined Hawick Vets as a locum vet and became a partner with Sarah in 2008.
